Home of the historic Little Orphan Annie House, the village of Lombard, IL has a population of over 42,000. The Lilac Villages as Lombard is called, was first settled in 1830. In 1927, estate of Colonel William Plum, who lived in Lombard, left his estate to the Village of Lombard. Colonel Plum’s home became and library. His garden contained over 200 variety of Lilac bushes which became a public park. The annual Lilac festival began in 1930. It is a 2 week festival which begins in Mid May with the annual crowning of the Lilac Queen and ends with a parade.
